I've checked out your post about extreme situations. My opinion is that building complex logic of compensation
a) complicates the whole system.
b) no ensure consistency anyway (e.g. relying on local db in keeping consistent state makes that local db itself a one point of failure). So, even having all this compensation staff implemented, you have to think of fixing inconsistencies
c) using local db impacts performance
