The most interesting example is about non-pointer reciever but you didn't give an explanation of this. Using non-pointer recievers is mostly discouraged because of scenarios like that, when copying of the object instead of passing by reference isn't very intuitive and seems to be a "strange" behavior. So, use pointer recievers unless you need something special
